WeBelieve is a festival of Catholic life. Bringing together the Church in all her expressions of faith, WeBelieve is a Christ-centred ecosystem created for everyone, from the seekers to the ordained.
On a winter afternoon in 1887, Fr Philip Fletcher and Mr Lister met in London to found The Guild of Our Lady of Ransom, an initiative would grow to become a network of thousands of Catholics committed to prayer and evangelisation. In the past 130+ years, though it has remained committed to its core purpose, The Guild has shaped its mission to the needs of the generations. Today, The Guild financially supports parishes and innovative works of evangelisation, connects evangelists through its network of members, and innovates through research and development. It was through this innovative arm of The Guild that WeBelieve came into being.
Through a lengthy process of research, prayer, dialogue, and discernment, it was clear that we could create something that brought The Church together in a truly authentic and beautiful way; a festival of Catholic life. The early stages of WeBelieve drew us towards the great ministries, institutions, and individuals of The Church in our country. It was clear that any 'festival of Catholic life' must be built on the blessings given to us in the form of those living out the Gospel. The beauty of this is that it's not limited to one corner of the Church, but every area that God has given us strength, faith, creativity, and hope. In practice, this means that WeBelieve is shaped and built to partner with and lift up ministries, orders, musicians, artists, those serving the needy, parishes, schools, and families.
Some years ago now, Pope Francis ignited us with a new perspective when he encouraged us to realise that “we are not living an era of change but a change of era.”. This sentiment echos through our efforts in creating WeBelieve, and shapes the vision that we carry into this project. Our goal is to create a festival pointing this generation and the next towards truth, beauty, and goodness. And so, with prayer at the centre of our work, we hope that this annual festival may be a place to encounter Christ in this new era.
While WeBelieve is very much a collaboration with many ministries in the Church, it is thanks to the initiative and generosity of The Guild of Our Lady of Ransom that this project is here today.
WeBelieve is overseen by The Guild, including their patron, Archbishop John Wilson. As a festival, WeBelieve is organised and managed by Peter's House and St Mary's College, Oscott.
